My youngest son, the musician, who I am sure at times struggles to know where he is going to find money for rent, has put up his excess musical equipment for sale.
To help the bushfire appeal.
The money is going direct to the nominated relief fund.
He won’t see it, just asks for a screenshot of the receipt and then the equipment is theirs.
Trust.
And humanity.
I am so proud.
His partner, my other sons and their wives are also doing whatever they can to help. In whatever way they can.
They all give a damn about others.
They are decent, kind and caring human beings.
My besties are opening their homes to strangers to come and stay, with their animals, for as long as it takes.
These beautiful people in my life are showing the things I most value.
Respect, kindness, compassion, morals, integrity, empathy.
People above ‘things’.
Stuff of good, decent, human beings.
Values that create trust.
And humanity.
I hope the politicians and the people of my land remember humanity, and forgot scoring political points, when the smoke lessens and the raging fires are extinguished.
I hope that rather than point the finger at who they think is to blame for why this has happened, they all work together to find a solution so that this disaster doesn’t happen again.
In the meantime my country is burning and we are all devastated.

Yes my country is burning yet again.
I remember Saturday 7th February, 2009 now known as ‘Black Saturday.
That horrific day when fires raged from East Kilmore to Kinglake and to Marysville.
173 Victorians were burnt to death.
More than 3,500 buldings were destroyed including 2,029 homes.
The entire Township of Marysville was destroyed, burnt to the ground.
At that time I lived nearly 50 k’s from the fire area yet burnt leaves where falling on my home all that day and night..
A day I will never forget.
A Royal Commission was convened to look into the cause and effect.
Recommendations from it were to be adopted so that lessons may be learned to deal with the next major bush fire.
Did we allow cattle into to high country to graze, were we allowed to gather up roadside fallen trees & branches, were we allowed to remove trees on our own land, no we were not.
So what did we learn?
Nothing, our country is burning again.
