‘This is some serious shit’
‘The guys that do this are seriously nutters’.

Direct quote from Doug.
We were at Blue Spur mountain biking track.
In Hokitika.
Not sure why I am included in these adventures to be honest.
I am definitely the weak link in the group, and Bruiser, well I couldn’t say Bruiser has had much mountain biking experience.
In fact, the bike shop sent me a text recently to say Bruiser needed it’s second service. He hadn’t even had his first service yet. That’s how much mountain biking he has done since last August.
He has been more of a flat road Christchurch bike really.
If he had a basket you could picture me cruising along those flat roads, in my frock, with a large baguette and a bunch of flowers poised delicately in said basket.
Bruiser however, had a baptism in Hokitika, of fire.
Blue Spur Forest contains a network of Westland MTB Club volunteer built trails complete with difficulty ratings.
If the track marker was a ‘black’ MoD would have liked to be there. Instead, with deference to my inexperience, he went along with a less difficult rating. Well most of the time. There was the one time where we didn’t realise we were on the black.
So at Blue Spur biking track, there was a bit of under my breath swearing going on to be honest.
There were quite a few parts of the trails with treacherous terrains. For me. Who isn’t that confident that when I hit a rock, or a tree root embedded in the ground, I am not going to be sailing through the air. Without my bike.
MOD on the other hand was loving himself silly.
Then the man wonders why I worry about him when he is off biking with his boyfriends.
Seriously MOD.
You aren’t 40 anymore. Like your boyfriends.
Get a grip man.
Having said that, he WAS kind enough to go on the less technical ones.
So we predominately stayed on the blue (grade 4) trails.
But, they do say cycling is a journey
And on this one it was.
One I did actually enjoy.
Once I had finished of course.
During the 2.5 hours of riding I got to view, in detail, much of the landscape on my cycling journey.
And got to see things I had never seen, like orange speckled mushrooms.
Generally due to the fact that for about 30% of the time I walked Bruiser.
If you like mountain biking, whatever level, you won’t be disappointed.
It’s actually pretty Impressive and quite picturesque, although I wouldn’t say I captured enough of that on my iPhone. Too hard to manage Bruiser AND whip the phone out, AND keep up with Team A.
Of course Blue Spur was nothing compared to our next day.
Lake Kaniere.
You can read about that next time.
I need some recovery time.
