‘Winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing’
Vince Lombardi – Green Bay Packers Coach
Green Bay, home of American Foods Group founded in 1946 and apparently where they process more than 6.5 million pounds of beef a day uuuuugggghhhh….that just makes me queasy.
Green Bay, home of Shreiber Foods, an employee owned customer brand dairy company with more than $5 billion in annual revenue.
But let’s be honest here, Green Bay? Most importantly the home of the Green Bay Packers.
They were the original Super Bowl winners, having been established way back in 1919.
Green Bay Packers won the NFL Championship title 11 times between 1929 and 1967 including five times in seven years under head coach Vincent Lombardi.
Lombardi resigned as head coach in February 1968 and went on to coach the Chicago Cardinals before his untimely and unexpected death of cancer in 1970 at the age of 57.
Once the Superbowl came into existence (first one was January 15, 1967) the Green Bay Packers won it 4 times, same record as the New York Giants. First two wins were in seasons 1966 and 1967 before a 30 year gap saw them winning again in seasons 1996 and 2010.
Green Bay is all about the Green Bay Packers. Apparently you can’t abbreviate that. It has to be Green Bay Packers. Always.
This doesn’t gel with us Aussies who abbreviate everything.
It’s an interesting town. Very industrial. I wouldn’t say pretty.
So I’m just going to throw some photos at you, my twelve loyal readers and my most avid reader, Carol. Carol whom we had the pleasure of having a meal with (and hubby Dave) when we arrived in Green Bay. To top off a lovely meal they took us to meet Dave’s bro Craig and his lovely wife Lilian.
A lovely night was had by all, although that may be a little presumptuous of me of course.
And here, as promised, are those photos.
