April 30 Promises

its a boy

Our little man.

I remember so clearly when your dad and your uncles were first placed into my arms, how my heart felt it would burst.

I haven’t met you yet, but already I love you more than you could imagine.

My heart is bursting.

You were born on a beautiful Christchurch Autumn day.

The type of day which reminded me how much I love the weather here.

Sunny, but crisp. Some said at work as they sat out on the balcony, hot.

Although a day where the morning ride to work warned me it was time to bring out a second set of gloves.

A day where I posted my first pic onto Facebook of the snow on the Southern Alps, which I can see from my vantage point on level 6 at work.

You came on your due date.

Only 5% of babies are delivered on their due date. Your father and your Uncle James were. Your Uncle Michael was born three weeks early. I wanted him on his dad’s birthday. In the end he arrived two days later.

You were born before Prince Harry and his wife Megan had their first child. The same Prince and Princess who tried to steal your mum and dad’s thunder with their engagement and wedding.

You pipped them at the post.

You were born 6 weeks after our puppy Frankie was born.

I make you the same promises I made to your dad and your uncles when they were born.

I promise, to remain fit, active and engaged so that I can participate in your life when and if you want me too.

I promise, whatever direction your life takes, I will love you unconditionally.
