Plitvice Lakes National Park – Croatia

The oldest and largest national park in the Republic of Croatia.  Inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979. The lake system of 16 larger named lakes and several smaller cascading lakes occupies only 1% of the total area of the Park. The park is about 300km. Huge.

Recreational activities include walking, mountain climbing, rowing, skiing, sledding and snowboarding.

Today we chose to walk. Or hike in Aussie terms. Or trek in NZ terms.

Overnight it had rained quite heavily, and at times during our walk, which made the whole experience very refreshing. Literally.

We went early and were glad we did, the tourist buses arrived at 10.30 as we were heading back to the car park.

Nature is the most amazing thing.

Breathtaking, calming, levelling, humbling.

I really have nothing more to say about this park.

The photos – culled from 63 to these few – even taken with the iPhone 12S and a bad photographer such as myself – should speak for themselves.
